Skills Grading Explained

This skills profiling suite of forms is customised for use by Contracts, Bid, Legal and Procurement professionals in the IT, Communications, Services, Space and Defense sectors, and global users of IT and Coms such as Financial Services, Oil/Energy, Transport and Retail.

E	Extensive	Can give expert advice and lead others to perform; is sought by others for consultation and leadership; has comprehensive knowledge with ability to make sound judgement; strategist, planner, trainer with intellectual qualities; experience includes decision making and substantial signing off authority; is relied upon to draft, negotiate, arbitrate, agree settlement; can offer substantial examples of related experience; confident business advisor who understands global issues, backed by graduate level/professional qualifications and at least 7 years practical experience/application of the subject.
M	Moderate	Competent performer within agreed parameters and professional guidelines; performs largely unsupervised; has in-depth knowledge of subject; can lead and direct others in performing related duties; has authority within agreed levels; knows which key decisions still require review; able to draft and negotiate and can offer reasonable examples as experience; backed by graduate level/professional qualifications and a minimum 3-5 years practical experience/application in the subject.
L	Little	Performs with guidance and advice. Has applied knowledge and can be relied upon within agreed limits. Has a minimum of 1 year of practical experience/application in the subject.
N	None	No practical experience/application of the subject.
A	Academic	Has academic knowledge or received specific vocational training, but has no practical work experience in the subject.

Variances/using initiative

Be practical when grading. For example, when considering more recent issues such as E-commerce and E-tendering, it is quite possible to grade yourself Extensive with less than 7 years experience, because of the knowledge and expertise which is gained by specialising in a relatively new concept/ subject.
